Math IXL

IXL (www.ixl.com) is a great math site.  The activities are engaging and it will keep track of your student's progress.  Although subscription based, families can do a free trial.  This might be helpful for families when looking for activities to do with their students over the upcoming holiday break.  I currently have about 20 days left in a free trial.  If you would like me to create a username and password for your student for the remaining days of the trail, please contact me!  I have a fixed number of licenses with my free trial, so they will be handed out as I am contacted.  At this point, please do not pay to subscribe yourself.  More information will (hopefully) follow.

Learn Zillion

Learn Zillion (www.learnzillion.com) is a wonderful resource for teachers, parents, and students alike. You can create a free account and find access to videos to help understand math concepts.  I found this resource especially helpful when teaching the students how to draw visual models for multiplying and dividing fractions!

Off to a Great Start!

We are having a great first week!  During the 3rd and 4th Grade DEB (Differentiated Engagement Block) we are spending time getting to know each other and doing some pre-assessment for our unit Questions.  We will be exploring questions themselves and the curiosity that leads us to asking questions.  During our 5th and 6th Grade DEB block we are also spending time learning about each other and doing some pre-assessments for our unit Ages.  Throughout this unit we will explore different ages in time, what it means to come of age in different cultures, and we will be learning how things change over time.  For math, we have been spending time working with fractions and representing them in many different ways.  Each of these groups is an amazing set of students, and I cannot wait to explore with them this year!
